Sex A Significant Predictor of Happiness Among Married Seniors

In an article entitled “Sex A Significant Predictor of Happiness Among Married Seniors” Dr. Adrienne Jackson, assistant professior at Florida Agricultural and Mechnanical University, discovered that “frequency of sexual activity was a significant predictor of both general and marital happiness.”  The article defines “sex” as vaginal, oral or anal sex.  It is well known in the sexological field that the aging process significantly impacts how, when and why men and women have sex and that adjustments are needed in order to maintain a satisfying sex life.  I have helped many patients in sex therapy learn how to accomodate illness and understand how the normal aging process changes the sexual response cycle to create and maintain healthy and satisfying sex throughout the adult life span.  A healthy sexual identity, particularly as we age, is validating, life affirming and overall health promoting.
